History and purpose of Association establishment |
| Public funding for pharmaceutical administration came about with the creation in 1961 of a universal healthcare system, and increased opportunities to administer pharmaceuticals and greater numbers of patients were expected to impose a heavier burden on pharmacies and pharmaceutical departments. Demand thus grew for technological innovation in pharmaceutical equipment/machinery, and the pharmacists of the Pharmaceutical Society of Japan at the time strongly urged equipment/machinery manufacturers to establish an association to host equipment/machinery exhibitions at the Society’s annual meeting and to promote joint industrial-academic R&D in equipment/machinery. For their part, equipment/machinery manufacturers also began calling for a unified organization to accommodate the pharmacists, and the Japan Pharmaceutical Equipment & Machinery Association was founded in 1963 with a membership of 71 companies. |

| The Association currently has an office in the Pharmaceutical Society of Japan’s Nagai Memorial Hall to host the above exhibitions and has been assisting the activities of such organizations as the Pharmaceutical Society of Japan, the Research Foundation for Pharmaceutical Sciences、the Japanese Society of Pharmaceutical Health Care and Sciences, and the Japanese Society of Hospital Pharmacists as a supporting member. |

Association activities |
- Sponsoring or co-sponsoring equipment/machinery exhibitions at the Pharmaceutical Society of Japan conferences and other meetings and arranging member participation in exhibitions.
- Publishing Association newsletters.
- Issuing and distributing publications pertaining to pharmaceutical equipment/machinery, and cooperating in the same.
- Hosting or cooperating in the hosting of lectures, workshops, round-table discussions, inspection tours, etc., on or relating to pharmaceutical equipment/machinery.
- Carrying out projects to promote pharmaceutical equipment/machinery exports.
- Providing grants for research on pharmaceutical equipment/machinery.
- Implementing other projects deemed necessary to achieve the Association’s aims.
- Assisting the activities of such organizations as the Pharmaceutical Society of Japan, the Research Foundation for Pharmaceutical Sciences, the Japanese Society of Pharmaceutical Health Care and Sciences, and the Japanese Society of Hospital Pharmacists as a supporting member.
